ABOUT ME

The work of choreographer Yvon van den Akker is characterized by the combination of dance and theatre with video and, often, working on location. Her projects have a surreal and absurd quality. Her style borders physical theatre. Dance often follows the structure of a theatre play. Not only does she make performances, she borders visual art by making dance films and video installations. And she works as a dancer / choreographer for other directors.

Yvon van den Akker studied at the Theatre School in Utrecht and the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam.

Currently she added a social component to her work: working with kids from the slums and street children. Moving more and more into a documentary style of working, making performances and films that mean something to the people.
